The Alabai is a very large dog. It has a powerful bone structure and well-developed muscles (though not excessively defined).

Its build is sturdy, and its back is quite broad. The body is moderately elongated. Its legs are very strong. A distinctive feature of this breed is its high hindquarters, which allow it to move as quickly as possible over any terrain and jump high.

The coat is dense and coarse, and can be either short or long. According to the breed standard, there are several coat colors. The skin is thick and elastic.

The sex of the dogs is immediately apparent: males are much more powerful and larger.
